ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Independent event

An independent event is something that happens without being influenced by something else. It's like playing with two toy cars at the same time, and what happens to one car doesn't affect what happens to the other car.

For example, let's say you are rolling a dice. Each time you roll it, it has an equal chance of landing on each number, and what you got on the last roll doesn't affect what you'll get on the next roll. The rolls are independent events because they don't depend on each other.

Another example is flipping a coin. Each time you flip it, it has an equal chance of landing on heads or tails, and what it landed on the last time doesn't affect what it will land on the next time. Flipping a coin is also an independent event because it doesn't depend on previous flips.

So basically, an independent event is something that happens on its own, without being influenced by anything else, and it doesn't depend on what happened before or what will happen next.
