ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Independent system operator

An independent system operator is like a big boss who helps make sure that electricity gets to all the places that need it. Imagine you have a bunch of toys and you have to share them with your cousins who live far away from you. But you can't just throw toys across the room to them, right? That's where the independent system operator comes in. They make sure that electricity can move through big wires, just like your toys can't move until you give them to someone else. They watch over the wires and make sure they are working well. They even help decide how much electricity needs to travel through the wires and where it needs to go. That way, everybody who needs electricity can get it safely and easily.
