ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Indian politics

Alright kiddo, let me help you understand Indian politics – it's like when you and your friends want to play a game and you have to decide what game to play, who gets to be the leader and how to make sure everyone follows the rules.

Now in India, we have a democratic form of government, which means that people get to choose who leads the country. Just like how you and your friends vote on what game to play, Indians who are 18 years old and above get to vote for who they want to be in charge.

We have different political parties that compete against each other to win the elections. These are like different teams that want to win the game. Each party has its own ideas, goals and promises that they make to the people in hopes of gaining their support.

Once the elections are over, the party that wins the majority of seats in the parliament gets to form the government. This is like when your team wins the game and gets to decide what rules to follow.

The leader of the winning party becomes the Prime Minister, who is like the captain of the team and is responsible for making important decisions for the country. The Prime Minister also chooses other important members of the government – like team captains in various positions, such as the finance minister, foreign minister, etc.

There are also some people who are not part of any political party, and they are known as independents. They can also contest in the elections and may sometimes win, but they don't have as much power as the larger parties.

Indian politics can be a bit confusing at times, with many different parties and complex policies, but it's important to remember that every citizen has the right to vote and have their say in how the country is run.
