ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Indiewood

Indiewood is a term we use to describe independent movies that are made by smaller film studios, but which still have a chance of being seen by a wider audience.

You know how you have your favorite movies that you watch over and over again, like Toy Story and The Lion King? Well, those movies were made by big studios like Disney, who have lots of money to spend on making and promoting them.

But some movies are made by smaller studios - like maybe a group of friends who want to make a movie together. Those movies have a harder time getting seen by lots of people, because they don't have as much money to spend on advertising or getting them into big movie theaters.

Indiewood movies are kind of a mix between those two types of movies. They are made by smaller studios, but they have enough money and resources to be shown in theaters and attract viewers outside of the usual movie-going crowd. So if you ever see a movie that you've never heard of before, but it's playing at your local movie theater, it might be an Indiewood film!
