ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Infant bathing

Infant bathing means cleaning a baby's body with warm water and soap. When babies are born, their skin is very delicate and sensitive. They need to be bathed carefully to avoid harmful chemicals or infections. Here's how to do it:

1. Fill a bathtub or sink with warm water. It should be between 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use a water thermometer to check the temperature.

2. Make sure you have everything you need within reach, like a baby washcloth, mild baby soap, a towel, and clean clothes.

3. Undress the baby and gently place them in the tub or sink, supporting their head and neck. Be sure to keep a hand on them at all times.

4. Use a soft washcloth to gently rub their skin with soap. Start with their face, then move to their neck, arms, chest, tummy, and legs. Be careful around their eyes, nose, and mouth.

5. Rinse the baby thoroughly with clean water, making sure no soap is left on their skin.

6. Gently lift them out of the tub or sink and wrap them in a warm towel. Dry them off completely, especially in the folds of their skin.

7. Dress the baby in clean clothes and give them a cuddle.

It's important to remember that babies don't need to be bathed every day. Two or three times a week is enough to keep them clean. Also, never leave a baby unattended in the water, even for a moment. Bath time can be a fun bonding experience for you and your baby, so enjoy it!
