An infrared traffic logger is a special device that helps grown-ups keep track of how many cars or people are coming and going in a certain area, like a parking lot or a busy street. It uses special sensors that detect a type of light that we can't see called "infrared" which is similar to the type of light that makes your TV remote work.
When a car or a person passes through the area, they break the beam of the infrared light and the sensor registers that as a "hit". The device can count how many hits it gets over a certain period of time, which helps grown-ups figure out how busy the area is and plan accordingly.
It's like playing a game of hide-and-seek, but instead of trying to find somebody, the device is trying to count how many objects cross its path. And just like how we need to keep track of how many people are playing so we know when the game is over, the infrared traffic logger needs to keep track of how many cars or people are passing by so it can give an accurate count.
