ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Instinct

Instinct is something that all animals have. It is like a kind of automatic way of knowing what to do in certain situations. For example, if you see a ball rolling down the street, your instinct will tell you to reach out your hand and catch it. In the same way, animals know naturally how to look for food or how to protect themselves when they are in danger. Instinct can also be described as a type of "inner voice" that helps guide you in moments when you don't know what to do.
