Okay kiddo, let’s talk about insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone that helps our bodies turn sugar into energy. Think of insulin like a key that unlocks the doors to our cells so sugar can go inside and be used for energy.
Sometimes, though, our bodies can become resistant to insulin. That means the keys don’t work as well and the doors don’t unlock properly, so the sugar can’t get inside the cells to provide energy. This can happen when we eat too much sugar or are not active enough, and can lead to high levels of sugar in our blood.
As a result, our bodies may need to make more insulin to try and unlock the doors better. But over time, this can tire out our pancreas (which makes insulin) and lead to problems like Type 2 diabetes.
So, it’s important to eat healthy foods and stay active to keep your body from becoming resistant to insulin, just like how you need to take care of your toys so they keep working properly!
