Okay kiddo, so you know how we have numbers from 1 to 10? Well, when we group those numbers together, we can split them into ten groups, each group having one number. These groups of numbers are called "deciles".
Now, let's say we have a bunch of numbers, and we want to know how big the distance is between the 10% of the lowest numbers and the 10% of the highest numbers. We call this distance the "interdecile range".
So for example, if we have 100 numbers, then the first decile would be the 10 lowest numbers, the second decile would be the next 10 lowest numbers, and so on. The ninth decile would be the 10th highest to the 19th highest numbers, and the tenth decile would be the 10 highest numbers.
To find the interdecile range, we would take the highest number in the 10th decile (the 10 highest numbers) and subtract the lowest number in the first decile (the 10 lowest numbers).
So, the interdecile range tells us how far apart the highest and lowest 10% of numbers are in a group or set of data. It's a way for us to understand how spread out the data is.
