ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

International Deep Drawing Research Group

Okay kiddo, let me explain. So, have you ever heard of a group of people who work together to learn and understand something new? It’s like when you and your friends learn how to play a new game together. Well, this group of people, called the International Deep Drawing Research Group, is a bunch of really smart adults who work together to study something called “deep drawing.”

Now, what is deep drawing you ask? Well, have you ever seen a soda can, or a pot or pan that is made out of metal? Those things were made using a process called deep drawing. It’s like when you take a piece of paper and fold it over and over again to make a little hat, but instead, this process takes a big sheet of metal and presses it into the shape of a can or pot.

The International Deep Drawing Research Group wants to understand how this process works and figure out the best ways to do it. They study things like how much pressure is needed to make a certain shape, what kind of metal works best, and how long it takes to make something.

They talk to each other and share their findings so that they can all learn and get better at deep drawing together. And who knows, maybe one day they will discover new ways to make things out of metal and teach the rest of the world how to do it too!
