ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Intersection (air navigation)

When you're flying a plane, there are some places in the sky where different routes cross each other. These places are called intersections. Think of it like a road intersection where different streets meet.

When pilots fly to an intersection, they use a special name to tell the air traffic controller which one they want to go to. This name is made up of five letters, like a secret code.

Just like how cars have to be careful when they cross an intersection, planes have to be careful too. Air traffic controllers make sure that planes don't crash into each other by telling them when to turn or climb or descend.

So, when you hear a pilot say they're going to an intersection, just remember that it's a place in the sky where different routes cross each other and they need to be careful not to crash into other planes!
