ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Intersection (geometry)

Imagine you are playing with toy cars on a big floor. You have a blue car and a red car. You draw a line on the floor with a marker, and the blue car can only drive on the left side of the line, while the red car can only drive on the right side of the line.

Now, imagine that the blue car starts driving towards the line from the left side and the red car starts driving towards the line from the right side. You notice that both cars will meet at a certain point on the line, and they cannot pass each other because they are on different sides of the line.

That point where the blue and red car meet is called an intersection. In geometry, an intersection is the point where two lines or shapes meet or cross each other. It's like where two roads meet and cars have to stop and wait for each other to pass before they can go on their way.

The intersection can be used to find out if two lines are parallel (they never meet) or if they cross each other at a certain angle. It's an important concept in geometry because it helps us understand how different shapes relate to each other and how they fit together.
