ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ipse dixit

Ipse dixit is Latin for "he himself said it." It is a type of argument where someone puts forward an idea or opinion and claims it to be true without providing any evidence or proof that it is true. When someone uses the phrase ipse dixit, they are saying that they accept that something is true because they heard it from someone else, rather than from their own research or understanding.
