ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Islam and animals

Well, Islam is a religion that teaches people to be kind and respectful to animals. In fact, it's very important for Muslims to treat animals with care and compassion.

One of the main reasons why Islam puts so much emphasis on the rights of animals is because they are all creations of Allah (or God), just like human beings. Therefore, Muslims believe that it is their duty to protect and take care of all living creatures.

For example, in the Quran (the holy book of Islam), there are many verses that speak about the importance of compassion towards animals. One of the most famous verses is: "There is not an animal on earth, nor a bird that flies on its wings but they are communities like you. We have not neglected anything in the Book; then unto their Lord they shall be gathered" (Quran 6:38).

Additionally, Muslims are encouraged to be mindful of what they eat and how it is prepared. This is why there are strict laws regarding the way animals are slaughtered for food, which is known as Halal meat. Halal meat is prepared by a trained person, who says a prayer before slaughtering the animal, and ensures that the animal is not mistreated or harmed in any way. This has ensured that only a humane way is used for slaughter.

Overall, Islam is a religion that places great emphasis on treating all living creatures with kindness and respect, which includes animals. Through the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslims are taught to be compassionate and loving towards animals and to take care of them as Allah’s gift to us.
