Islam and secularism

Islam and Secularism are two very different ways of looking at the world and how a government should be run. In Islam, the belief is that there is one god and one law (called Sharia Law) that all people should obey. Everyone should follow what has been laid out in religious texts like the Quran and Hadith. Secularism is the idea that religious beliefs should not influence decisions made by the government. This means that instead of religious laws and beliefs, decisions should be made with reason and evidence and using the rule of law. Secularism is generally seen as a way to help protect people's right to think, believe and practice whatever they choose without any one religion taking precedence over another.
