ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Isogeny

Okay kiddo, so do you know what a math problem is? It's when you have to find out the answer to something using numbers.

Well, an isogeny is a type of math problem that involves something called elliptic curves. Are you familiar with those? It's basically a fancy way of saying a specific type of mathematical shape.

Now, an isogeny is like a way of transforming one elliptic curve into another one that has similar properties. It's kind of like how you can change a square into a rectangle by stretching it out or squishing it together.

Why would someone want to do this? Well, there are a lot of cool things you can do with elliptic curves like encrypting messages or creating digital signatures. And sometimes it's easier to do those things with different elliptic curves.

So, by using an isogeny, mathematicians can transform one elliptic curve into another so they can do the math they need to do to keep our computer systems safe and secure. Pretty neat, huh?
