ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jain monasticism

Jain monasticism is a practice where people give up their normal life to become monks or nuns in the Jain religion. It's kind of like priests or nuns in Christianity.

Jains believe in living a simple life, and that means giving up things like food, clothes, and even a home. Jain monks and nuns wear white robes and shave their heads. They either live in temples or wander from place to place to spread the teachings of their religion.

Jain monks and nuns also take vows, which are promises they make to live their lives in certain ways. The vows might include things like not stealing or not harming any living creature.

Living as a Jain monk or nun is not easy, but it can be very rewarding. By living a simple life and following the teachings of their religion, they hope to achieve enlightenment and be freed from the cycle of death and rebirth.
