ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

January 2018 North American blizzard

Okay kiddo, so in January 2018, there was a big snowstorm that happened in North America. A snowstorm is when a lot of snow falls from the sky and covers everything like a big blanket.

This particular snowstorm was called a blizzard, which is a really strong snowstorm with very strong winds that blow the snow around and make it hard to see. It can be dangerous because the wind and snow can make it hard to travel or even stay warm if you're outside for too long.

This blizzard affected a lot of places in North America, like the northeastern part of the United States and parts of eastern Canada. Some of these places got more than a foot of snow, which is like 12 big rulers stacked on top of each other!

People had to make sure they stayed safe during this blizzard by staying inside where it was warm and making sure they had enough food and water. Lots of schools and businesses closed down so people could stay home and wait out the storm.

Overall, a blizzard is a really big snowstorm with strong winds that can be dangerous, but if we stay inside and stay safe, we can ride it out until it's over.
