ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jeans equations

Jeans equations are like math formulas that help you understand how things move and change in space. Imagine you are playing with a bunch of marbles in a big box. When you shake the box, the marbles might bump into each other and move around. That's kind of like what happens in space, except instead of marbles you have gas, stars, and galaxies all moving around.

Scientists use the Jeans equations to figure out how these things move around and change over time. These equations tell you things like how fast gas is moving, how dense a cloud of gas is, and how gravity is pulling everything together. By using the Jeans equations, scientists can make predictions about what will happen to these objects in the future.

It's kind of like if you were playing with marbles and you wanted to know which ones would end up at the bottom of the box when you shook it. You could use a formula to figure out which ones are heaviest and which ones are going to move around the most. That's basically what the Jeans equations do for scientists studying space. They help them understand how objects in space are going to move and change over time.
