Kairomone

Kairomones are smells that animals make that tell other animals something important. It's like when you smell smoke and it makes you know that there might be a fire nearby. These smells help animals communicate with each other even if they can't see each other or hear each other very well.

For example, some animals use kairomones to tell predators that they are not good to eat. This is kind of like telling a bully that you're not an easy target. Other animals use kairomones to find food, like when a bird follows the smell of nectar to a flower.

Scientists study kairomones to learn how animals communicate with each other and how they use smells to survive in the wild. They might even use kairomones to help people in the future, like by making better bug sprays or finding ways to stop pests from destroying crops.
