Key exchange is a way for two people to securely share information, like a password, over the internet. It works by both people having their own secret “key” that gets mixed together. This mixed key is called a “shared secret”. It’s like when you mix two colors of paint together – you can’t tell what the original colors were, just the mixed color. When the two people have their secret keys mixed together and no one else knows what the mixed key is, nobody else can get access to the password.
