Okay kiddo, let's talk about the Kingdom of the Isles.
Imagine a big, big island with lots of smaller islands around it. In a long time ago, a group of people lived on this big island and called themselves the Vikings. They were known for being brave and strong warriors who loved to explore and raid places.
These Vikings had lots of leaders who ruled different parts of the island. But then, one of these leaders, named Somerled, became very powerful and united all these parts under one kingdom. This new kingdom was called the Kingdom of the Isles because it included not only the big island but also the smaller ones around it.
Now, the people of the Kingdom of Isles became very rich and powerful too because they were skilled traders and fishermen. They also had lots of sheep on their islands, which produced wool that they sold to other places. The Vikings used these riches to build great castles and churches, and even got involved in battles against their neighbors.
But even though the Kingdom of the Isles was very strong, it eventually weakened because of fights between different Viking families and invaders from other areas. After many years, the kingdom was finally absorbed into Scotland and ceased to exist.
So, there you have it, kiddo. The Kingdom of the Isles was a time when the Vikings ruled over a bunch of islands and became pretty rich and powerful.
