Korean Armistice Agreement

Do you know what a truce is? It's like when you and your brother or sister have a big fight and then you both agree to stop fighting and be nice to each other for a little while.

Well, a long time ago, there was a big war fought in Korea. Lots of people got hurt and lots of people died. After a while, the soldiers fighting in the war decided they wanted to stop fighting and have peace instead.

So they made something called an armistice agreement, which is like a big truce between two groups of people fighting. The Korean Armistice Agreement was signed in 1953, which was a long time ago.

Basically, it means that North Korea and South Korea agreed to stop fighting and to try to peacefully work out their differences. But they didn't sign a peace treaty, which means that technically they are still at war, even if they aren't fighting right now.

So it's like two kids who fought and agreed to be nice for a little while, but they still have to work out their problems and sometimes they might not get along.
