ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Krogh model

Imagine you have a bunch of different cells in your body that need oxygen to survive. These cells are all different shapes and sizes and are spread out in different places. The Krogh Model is like a map that helps us understand how oxygen gets from your lungs to all of these cells.

First, when you breathe in, air goes into your lungs. Your lungs have tiny little sacks called alveoli where oxygen from the air can pass through into your bloodstream.

Then, your heart pumps this oxygen-rich blood through your arteries to different parts of your body. These arteries get smaller and smaller until they turn into capillaries. Capillaries are like tiny little bridges that connect your arteries to your cells.

Finally, the oxygen gets out of the capillaries and into the cells that need it. This happens because of something called diffusion, which is like when you spill perfume in one corner of a room and eventually the smell spreads throughout the whole room.

The Krogh Model helps us understand all of the different steps involved in getting oxygen from your lungs to your cells. It shows us how oxygen moves through your body and helps keep all of your cells healthy!
