Krypteia

Krypteia is a word from ancient Greece that means "secret." But it was also the name for a special group of soldiers in Sparta who were chosen to be secret police.

These soldiers were young men who had already completed their training and were ready to become full-fledged soldiers. They were chosen to be part of the Krypteia because they were very good at sneaking around and not being seen.

This might sound mean or unfair, and it was. The Spartans were very strict and wanted to make sure that they stayed in power. They did not trust the helots, so they needed the Krypteia to keep an eye on them.
