Kurzarbeit

Kurzarbeit is a German word that means "short work". It is a job program where people who have lost their jobs due to bad economic times can get extra help from the government. If a company is having trouble because of economic conditions, they can tell the government and the government will help them by giving money to the workers so they can keep working for fewer hours. This way, the workers don't lose their jobs entirely, and their company can still make money, so it helps everybody.
