ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kyung-ok-ko

Kyung-ok-ko is a traditional Korean game that children play to have fun! It is also called Korean "kick-and-chase" game. Are you ready to learn how to play?

First, let's gather some friends to play with. Kyung-ok-ko is a group game, so the more friends, the better!

To start, we need a safe area to play in, like a playground or an open field. Now, imagine drawing a big circle on the ground, like a giant pizza. This circle is the playing area. Inside the circle, we will have a smaller circle called the "jail." This is the place where you go if you get caught!

Now, let's decide who will be "it" first. The person who is "it" will try to catch the other players. Everyone else will be the runners. Remember, the goal is to not get caught!

The runners stand inside the big circle, and the person who is "it" stands in the center of the circle. This person will close their eyes and count to a certain number, like 10, to give the runners time to run away and hide.

While the person who is "it" counts, the runners quietly scatter and find spots to hide within the big circle. Make sure you find a good hiding place, but remember it should still be within the circle!

Once the person who is "it" finishes counting, they open their eyes and try to spot the runners. The runners must be careful not to be seen or go outside the big circle. If the runner is spotted, they need to run and touch the jail (the smaller circle) in the center before the person who is "it" can catch them!

If the person who is "it" tags a runner before they reach the jail, then that runner becomes "it" and the game starts over. But if the runner makes it safely to the jail, they can stay there and be safe until the next round.

The game continues with different people taking turns being "it" and trying to catch the runners. The last person to be caught is the winner!

Remember, while playing Kyung-ok-ko, it's important to be kind and fair to one another. Everyone should have a chance to find a hiding spot and enjoy the game without getting hurt. So have fun running, hiding, and trying to stay away from the person who is "it"!
