ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Laboratory-grown organ

Laboratory-grown organs are organs that scientists make in a laboratory. They start with a few cells from your own body, and then scientists use special tools and techniques to grow more cells until they have enough of the right types of cells to make an organ. For example, if the organ they are trying to make is a heart, the scientists will be sure to grow the right types of cells that make up the heart - like muscle and nerve cells. After this, they will put the cells together in such a way that the structure of the heart looks just like a real heart. Finally, the organ is put into your body and works just like a real heart.
