Labradorescence is something that happens when light reflects off the surface of certain minerals, like Labradorite.
Imagine you have a shiny rock, and you shine a light on it. The light bounces back at you, right? But with labradorite, something different happens – the light goes in and instead of just bouncing straight back out, it bounces around inside the rock, kind of like a ball bouncing around in a room.
As the light bounces around, it mixes with other colors of light, and creates a really cool rainbow effect. It’s like when you shine a light through a prism and it makes a rainbow on the wall, but the effect is on the surface of the rock.
So, when you look at a labradorite rock, you might see different colors shimmering across its surface – like blues, greens, yellows, and purples. This is what we call labradorescence!
