Lake Monoun

Lake Monoun is a big body of water in Cameroon. Imagine a giant swimming pool that can hold billions and billions of gallons of water! But, unlike a swimming pool, Lake Monoun has a lot of gases trapped at the bottom. These gases build up over time and can cause a big explosion called a limnic eruption.

Now, these eruptions can be really dangerous because they release a bunch of poisonous gases, like carbon dioxide, into the air. It's like a really big fizzy drink that has been shaken up too much and then explodes! And because Lake Monoun's limnic eruptions happen under the water, it's really scary for the fish and other creatures living in the lake.

To make sure everyone stays safe, scientists study Lake Monoun to try and figure out when the next eruption might happen. They also warn people who live near the lake to be careful and to stay away from the water when they think an eruption might happen. It's important to take care of our planet and to be aware of things that can be dangerous to us and to the world around us.
