Limnic eruption

Have you ever seen a bottle of soda pop and noticed it has bubbles in it? Those bubbles are because the soda has something called carbon dioxide in it.

Now imagine there is a lake or pond that has a lot of carbon dioxide dissolved in it. Normally, the carbon dioxide would just stay in the water and not cause any problems. But if something happens, like an earthquake or volcanic eruption, the carbon dioxide can suddenly be released!

This is called a limnic eruption. The carbon dioxide bubbles up to the surface of the water and creates a cloud of gas. This gas cloud is very dangerous because when people breathe it in, they can become very sick or even die!

This is why it's important to stay away from any lakes or ponds where a limnic eruption might happen. It may not happen very often, but it can be very dangerous when it does!
