ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Langer correction

Langer correction is a special trick that doctors and scientists use to help people with one leg longer than the other. Just like how some kids have different sized shoes for each foot, sometimes one leg grows longer than the other. This might sound like a small problem, but it can make it hard for people to walk or run without feeling off balance.

To fix this problem, doctors can use something called a Langer correction. It's like adding a special insert into a shoe to make one leg taller. These inserts are called orthotics, and they are custom-made just for the person who needs them.

To make the orthotic, the doctor takes a special mold of the person's feet and legs. They use this mold to create a custom-fit insert that will go into the shoe on the shorter leg. The orthotic is shaped like a wedge or a heel lift, and it is made from materials that are easy to wear and won't hurt the foot.

When the person wears the shoes with the Langer correction, they should feel more balanced and comfortable. They will be able to walk and run without feeling like they are limping or wobbling. It's like magic!
