ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Language policy

Language policy is a set of rules that decide which language should be used within a certain area or country. It is important so that everyone can understand each other and work together. For example, a language policy might say that everyone in a particular country should speak the same language when they're talking to each other. So even if two people don't speak the same language at home, they will all be able to speak a shared language when they need to communicate.
