ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Latin

Latin is an ancient language that was originally spoken by people who lived in Ancient Rome. It was used for centuries in the Roman Empire and for centuries more by scholars and the Catholic Church, who still use it today in some ceremonies. Latin is known for its precise grammar and structure, which makes it an ideal language for learning about how language works. Latin words still frequently appear in the English language, and many other modern languages also use Latin words. So, even though Latin is no longer spoken as a living language, it is still used in many different ways today!
