ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Launch vehicle

A launch vehicle is like a big rocket that takes things, like spacecraft or satellites, from Earth up into space. It's like a really powerful car that can go super fast, but instead of driving on roads, it flies up into the sky.

Just like you need a lot of energy and strength to throw a ball really far, a launch vehicle needs a lot of power to get things off the ground and into space. That's why launch vehicles have a lot of fuel inside them, kind of like a big water bottle that's filled with gasoline.

When the launch vehicle is ready to take off, the fuel inside the rocket is lit, and it burns up really quickly. This creates a huge amount of power and thrust, which is what helps the rocket lift off the ground and into space.

Once the launch vehicle is in space and the things it was carrying have been released, the rocket often falls back down to Earth and lands in the ocean. Then, it can be retrieved and used again for another space mission.

So, basically, a launch vehicle is a really powerful rocket that helps us send things from Earth up into space.
