Lend-lease

Lend-Lease was a program during World War II (1939-1945) that allowed the United States to give or "lend" airplanes, ships, food, and other things to countries fighting against Nazi Germany. The countries that received these things would then have to promise to give them back or "lease" them after the war was over. This way, the United States could help fight the war without having to spend too much money.
