ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Less (Unix)

Imagine you have a big box filled with toys. You want to take out only a few toys to play with and put the rest away. But instead of taking out each toy one by one, you want to take out all the toys that are red.

This is where "less" comes in handy when you are using a computer. It is a command or program that allows you to see parts of a big file on your computer screen without having to scroll through the whole file.

So, just like when you want to take out only the red toys from the box, when you use "less" you can tell the computer to only show you certain parts of a file, like a specific paragraph, sentence, or even just a few words.

With "less", you can quickly and easily read a large file on your computer without having to waste time scrolling through irrelevant parts.
