ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Let them eat cake

"Let them eat cake" is an old phrase that people used to use a long time ago. It comes from a story about a queen who didn't think about how much money people had or how much food there was. One day, when she was told that the people didn't have any bread to eat, she said, "Well, let them eat cake!"

Now, the reason this phrase is important is because it shows how disconnected some people can be from reality. The queen didn't realize how hard life was for the regular people, and she didn't understand that if they didn't have bread, they probably didn't have cake either.

So when we use this phrase today, it's to remind ourselves and others not to be like the queen. We should always think about how our actions and words affect other people, and we should never assume that just because we have something, everyone else does too.
