Ligature (typography)

A "ligature" is a type of special symbol used in most fonts in typography. It is made up of two or more letters that are joined together to make a single connected symbol. For example, you might see the symbol ‘æ’, which is made up of two letters (the 'a' and the 'e') joined together. This symbol is often used in Latin and Greek words. The ligature makes the words easier to read and nicer to look at.
