ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Linguistic performance

Linguistic performance is basically how well someone uses language. When you talk or write, you are using language to communicate with others. Your ability to do this is called linguistic performance.

Just like any other skill, some people are naturally better at it than others. But even if you are not a natural, you can still get better with practice.

Linguistic performance includes things like your ability to:

- Use correct grammar
- Pronounce words correctly
- Use words that are appropriate for the situation
- Use the right tone of voice for the situation (such as being polite or firm)
- Use nonverbal cues (like facial expressions) to help communicate your meaning

In order to improve your linguistic performance, you can practice speaking and writing in different situations. You can also read books, listen to podcasts, and watch videos to learn new vocabulary and grammar rules.

So if you want to be really good at using language to communicate with others, just keep practicing and learning new things!
