ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Syntax

Syntax is like following the right pattern when you talk or write. Just like when you write your ABCs or spell a word, you have to follow the right pattern to make it look and sound right. When we talk about syntax, we're talking about the special rules we need to follow to put together sentences that make sense. Every language has its own set of syntax rules, and if we don't follow them, our sentences might not make any sense. It's like putting a puzzle together - if the pieces don't fit right, we won't get the picture we want! So when we learn syntax, we're really learning how to put together sentences the right way, so they make sense and other people can understand what we're trying to say.
