Hey there kiddo! Do you know what printing is? It's when you take a picture or drawing and put ink on it, then press it onto paper so you can make a copy of the picture.
Well, linocut is a type of printing where you use a special material called linoleum to make the picture or design that you want to print. Think of linoleum as like a big rubber stamp!
To make a linocut, you first draw your picture or design onto the linoleum with a pencil or pen. Then you use special tools called gouges to carve away the parts of the linoleum that you don't want to show up on your print.
Once you're done carving your linoleum block, it's time to ink it up! You use a roller to apply ink onto the raised parts of the linoleum that you didn't carve away. Then you place a piece of paper on top of the inked linoleum and press down firmly to transfer the ink onto the paper.
And voila! You now have a print of your picture or design. You can make multiple copies by re-inking your linoleum block and pressing it onto more pieces of paper.
Linocut is a really fun way to make art and it's used by artists all over the world. Maybe you can try it out and make some cool prints too!
