ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Linothorax

Linothorax is a type of armor made out of linen. Imagine you have a big sheet of fabric made from a plant called flax. This fabric is really strong and can make a good barrier between your body and weapons that might hurt you.

To make linothorax, people would take layers of this special fabric and soak it in glue or resin made from things like pine sap or beeswax. Then, they would layer the fabric on top of each other to make it stronger.

Once all the layers were made, they would cut out a special shape to fit your body like a puzzle piece. Then, they would sew it together to make a shirt that you could wear as armor.

Linothorax was popular a long time ago when people used swords and arrows in battles. It was a cheaper alternative to metal armor and it was more flexible, which made it easier for soldiers to move around.

So, linothorax is like a really strong sheet made of flax that's layered with glue or resin, cut into a special shape to fit your body, and sewn together to make a shirt you can wear for protection in battle.
