Lion (heraldry)

A lion in heraldry is a special image or symbol that is used on coats of arms, which are like special signs that show who a person or family is. Lions are really cool animals, but in heraldry they are used to represent special traits like strength, courage, and bravery. They have a special pose in heraldry where they are called rampant, which means they are standing on their hind legs with their front paws up, ready to fight. They can also be shown walking, lying down, or even having two heads! Lions have been used in coats of arms for hundreds of years and are still used today to show a family's history or military achievements.
