Livestock guardian dog

A livestock guardian dog (LGD) is a special type of dog that helps protect farm animals like sheep, goats, cows, and chickens from other animals that might try to hurt or eat them.

LGDs are big and strong dogs that are very loyal to their farm family and they like to stay close to the animals they are protecting. They have a really important job to do, which is to keep the other animals that want to eat the farm animals away from the farm, like coyotes, wolves, and even big birds like eagles.

LGDs live with the farm animals and watch over them all day and night, barking and growling to warn off any predators that come too close. They are very protective and brave, and will even fight with the predators if they have to.

But don't worry, these dogs are very gentle and friendly with people they know. They like to play and be petted, but they know their job is to protect the animals on the farm. So if you see an LGD on a farm, remember to be kind and respectful to them, and thank them for keeping the animals safe!
