Lockout (industry)

Okay kiddo, let’s say we have a big machine that helps to make things. It has many parts that need to work together to get the job done. Sometimes, the people who take care of the machine need to fix something that’s broken or do some maintenance work to keep it running smoothly.

To make sure everyone stays safe while they are working on the machine, the workers usually turn off the power and put a special lock on it so nobody can turn the power back on while they are working. This is called a lockout.

It’s like when you play with your toys, sometimes you have to stop and take a break to fix something or make it better. Your mom or dad helps you turn off the toy and makes sure nobody else turns it back on while you’re working on it. Just like that, the workers use a lockout to keep everyone safe while they work on the big machine.
