ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Long-distance calling

Long-distance calling is when you talk to someone who is far away from you using the phone. Just like when you call your grandma who lives in another state or your friend who moved to another country.

You see, when you use your phone to make a call, it sends your voice through wires, towers, and satellites to reach the person on the other end. Long-distance calling means that the people you are calling are very far away, and it costs more money to talk to them than it would if they were nearby.

It's like sending a letter to someone far away. It takes more time and costs more money to send it because it has to travel a longer distance. The same goes for long-distance calls. The further away the person is, the more you have to pay for the call.

But sometimes, you can use special plans or apps to make long-distance calls cheaper or even free. That means you can talk to your faraway loved ones more often without having to spend as much money.
