ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Long-term potentiation

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a way for our brains to remember things over a long period of time. It's like when something happens that makes it easier for us to remember it. For example, if you learned the lyrics to a new song and sang along to it over and over, you would eventually remember it because of LTP. LTP happens in the tiny connections between brain cells, called synapses. When a signal comes into a synapse, the connection between the cells get stronger, making it easier for signals to be passed between them. So if you keep doing the same thing over and over again, your brain will remember it better and better!
