ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lord's Prayer

Okay, so there's this thing called the Lord's Prayer. It's a special prayer that a lot of people like to say because it reminds them of how much they love and trust God.

The Lord's Prayer goes like this:

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."

Now, let's break that down into easier-to-understand parts:

When we say "Our Father," we're talking to God, who we think of like our loving father. We're saying that he's in heaven, which is a beautiful and happy place where we hope to go someday.

We're saying that we honor God's name and we hope that everyone else will, too. We also ask that God's kingdom will come to Earth (which means that everyone will love and help each other like God wants us to).

We ask that God's will be done (which means that we want God to decide what happens in the world, since God knows what's best for everyone).

We ask God to give us the things we need to live each day, like food and water and a safe place to live.

We also ask God to forgive us if we do something wrong, and we promise to forgive other people if they do something wrong to us.

And we ask God to help us stay away from things that might lead us to do bad things, and to keep evil away from us.

Finally, we say "Amen," which means "let it be so" - we're saying that we really believe all of the things we just asked God for, and we trust that God will take care of us.
