ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Loss leader

A loss leader is a product or service that a store or company offers at a low price to attract customers. Let's say that you and your family go to a store and you see a toy that you really like. The store might be selling it for a really low price (the loss leader price) even though it usually costs more. This is the store's way of trying to get you to buy other stuff from the store. They are hoping that you will be so excited about the toy that you will buy other things while you're there.
